Namibia – Windhoek

Windhoek is the capital of Namibia, and where your plane probably will land, at the WDH airport, around 45 minutes, outside the city center. You should pick ut a car here, as public transport is not very common.

The city center have a western city wibe, with a pedestrian street, with a craft market, hotels restaurants, art museum and shops. The central spot is at the «clock tower», so search for that in your map to find where to start. If you have children, a trip to the playground in the Zoo park, right across the street, is also worthwhile.

Outside this central area, you will find the places where most people live, as in the township Katatura. In that area, you will also find «Penduka village», a manufacturing and hospitality facility run by women. You can buy beautiful handcrafted fabrics, eat at their restaurant or even sleep there. It’s next to a small lake.

Daan Viljoen Game reserve is a good option to see some nature and animals, while in Windhoek. You can go there for a daytrip, and do a few hours hiking. They have animals, but not any dangerous ones, so you’ll be fine.

There is also lodges north of Windhoek offering game viewing on their farm, as Okapuka safari lodge, which we have visited a few times. They have game drives where you see rhinos, giraffes, oryx, sable antilopes and much more animals. They also have a fenced in area for lions.
